HTC looking to develop its own processor for low-range handsets

With the overall aim of cutting production costs down and moving manufacturing ever more into internal operations, it has been revealed that HTC is looking to develop its own processors for low priced smartphones according to China Times.
According to China Times, HTC has hit a deal with ST-Ericsson to co-develop and produce a new dedicated chip for low-end handsets coming out next year in 2013, a move which could allow HTC to further drive down the production costs of its low-end products and offer more variety to consumers worldwide.
It is unclear whether they are looking to co-develop these new processors for handsets purely in Asian markets though, however we’d expect this new processor to find its way in to smartphones across Europe and the US too.
When this chip does come out it’ll be interesting to see how it performs next to current budget processors on the market for sure.
